Slaughterhouse Multiplayer Level
The Single Player level "Slaughterhouse" is confirmed to be a multiplayer map. Plus the crossbow will also feature in multiplayer.
It is now a known fact that Black Ops' multiplayer mode has been in development from day 1, even before Single Player. In previous Call of Duty games the multiplayer levels have been based off Single Player levels, but it's the other way round for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
In a interview with Video Games Daily » Treyarch's studio head has revealed that the recently previewed Single Player level "Slaughterhouse" is actually based off a multiplayer map, this level is set in a Vietnamese Hue City.
Often times what we’ve done is we’ve created a single player environment and we’ve modified it for multiplayer. But a lot of it’s been the other way round. The Slaughterhouse city level was initially created inside of multiplayer. It’s different in the single player experience, but the point is it started there. ~ Studio Head, Mark Lamia
Treyarch's Community Manager Josh Olin has also confirmed that the military crossbow that you receive in the "WMD" level also came from multiplayer. These are key examples of how serious Treyarch are taking multiplayer, things are otherwise normally taken from Single Player and then added to multiplayer.
The article then described how Treyarch are "pinning the multiplayer modes’ success on a combination of customisable experiences and social networking". What exactly does this all mean? We do not know but it sounds like Black Ops will not disappoint and will offer us a lot of customization. A final comment by the studio head also left us eager to hear exactly what Treyarch's plans for multiplayer are.
Players like to play Call of Duty in certain maps in particular ways. So we’re going to give them particular tools to let them do that inside the game, without getting specific. ~ Studio Head, Mark Lamia
