Only 176 Walther WA2000 sniper rifles were ever produced, and they have since become collector's items. The weapon was manufactured in response to the 1972 Summer Olympics Munich massacre ». In situations such as this, a marksman requires both accuracy, and mobility. The WA2000 delivered on both accuracy and mobility, thanks to its bullpup design. Unlike sniping rifles produced by many companies, the Walther WA2000 is not based on a rifle from the company's existing line-up. It was a completely unique design. However, this also proved to be one of the key flaws in the Walther WA2000. It was extremely expensive to produce. When it was in production, a single rifle costed approximately $10,000 USD. Currently, a WA2000 rifle can be sold for up to, and even over $80,000 USD. The WA2000 fired the .300 Winchester Magnum round, as it was known for its long range accuracy and consistency, even at long ranges. However, the rifle can also chamber the 7.62x51mm NATO round, as well as the uncommon 7.5x55mm Swiss round.
